    QUIT LYING, EH!!

What: Workshop on Truth Telling and Chapter AGM
    When: Monday, November 29, 7 p.m.
Where: The Kings Head Pub, 120 King Street, Winnipeg
    Who: CAJ members ($5.00) & Non-members ($15.00)

How many times have you done an interview and wondered if your source is telling the truth or giving you a snow job?

Well, wonder no more. Come to a CAJ event on November 29 and find out.

The event, hosted by the Canadian Association of Journalists (Manitoba chapter) is called "How to Tell When People are Lying." It features three of the best minds in Manitoba when it comes to sifting fact from fiction.

Dr. Fred Shane is a forensic psychiatrist who teaches at the University of Manitoba and also has a private practice. He has written extensively and testified as an expert witness at trials here and internationally. Dr. Shane says he sees at least one liar a day. (It wasn't me, I swear.)

Detective Don Macaulay is a certified Forensic Polygraph Examiner with the Winnipeg Police Service Polygraph Unit. At 39 and in his 14th year of police service, he graduated in 2002 from the Polygraph Examiner's course at the Canadian Police College.

Moderating the discussion is Cecil Rosner, executive producer of CBC TV's Canada Now in Winnipeg, and a foremost investigative journalist in his own right.

This promises to be a highly informative and entertaining evening, whether you're an investigative journalist, a beat reporter, a freelancer or whatever. It applies to everybody.

The event takes place Monday, November 29, 7 p.m. at the Kings Head Pub, 120 King Street, Winnipeg. Just go to the back of the main room and up the stairs. We'll have the entire upstairs to ourselves.

Bar service and hot food (pub grub and full menu) are available at cost. We'll load up first and start with the session right after.

Admission is $5 for CAJ members, $15 for non-members.

There'll be a very short CAJ meeting before we start. Items of business include electing the local board of directors for 2006.

Mark this down, come on over and learn how to zero in on the truth. Advance notice is nice but not essential.
