What is the role of Investigative Journalism in a Global World?
Ayaan Hirsi Ali

Keynote speaker Ayaan Hirsi Ali examines the role of investigative journalism in today’s world. Ali is a Muslim woman born in Somalia who went on to become a parliamentarian in the Netherlands. Along the way she lived in exile in Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia and Kenya. A devout and ardent Muslim in her youth she is now one of the world’s most outspoken critics of Islam. She is currently a resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington. Ali has written two books about her life, The Caged Virgin and Infidel. Together with director Theo Van Gogh, she made Submission, a film about the oppression of women in conservative Islamic cultures. Van Gogh was murdered in Amsterdam and Ali remains under death threat as a result. In 2005 Time magazine named her one of the most influential 100 people in the world.
