    More than 70 journalists enjoyed the National Writers' Symposium
    in Charlottetown, October 23 and 24, 2004.

    The P.E.I. chapter of the Canadian Association of Journalists is hosting the annual National Writers' Symposium at the Rodd Charlottetown Hotel, October 23 and 24, 2004.

    The Symposium will bring together some of the top writers in North America to talk about how we can improve our writing, whether we work in print, broadcast or other media.

    Our presenters:

      Scott Taylor Scott Taylor, a former professional soldier, has been editor and publisher of the Ottawa-based military issues magazine Esprit de Corps for the past 14 years. He has logged over one million air miles as a war correspondent reporting from such global hot spots as the Persian Gulf, Cambodia, Western Sahara, Croatia, Bosnia, Kosovo and Macedonia. Scott has made 20 trips to Iraq over the past four years. During his most recent visit there, in early September, he was held captive for five days. (Keynote Speaker)
      Jacqui Banaszynski Jacqui Banaszynski is a Pulitzer prize winner and the Associate Managing Editor at The Seattle Times, in charge of special enterprise projects and staff development. She also is the Knight Chair Professor at the Missouri School of Journalism, where she is developing programs in editing and writing excellence. (Keynote Speaker)
      Linden MacIntyre

      Linden MacIntyre has just started his 15th season as co-host of CBC-TV's the fifth estate. He is one of Canada's most distinguished broadcast and investigative journalists. Born in Newfoundland and raised in Cape Breton, Linden began his journalism career in 1964 with The Halifax Chronicle-Herald and his broadcast career in 1976 with CBC Television in Halifax. (Keynote Speaker)

      Scott Russell Scott Russell helped cover the Olympics in Athens for CBC Sports. Scott began his CBC career in Charlottetown and has reported on everything from show jumping to NHL playoffs to bonspiels as well as triathlon, gymnastics, rugby, and cross-country skiing.
      Steve Buttry Steve Buttry is writing coach and national correspondent for the Omaha World-Herald. Steve has been an editor and reporter for the Des Moines Register and the Kansas City Star and Times. He has presented workshops and worked individually with journalists as a visiting writing coach in newsrooms and at journalism conferences in 13 states as well as in Alberta and British Columbia.
      Ira Basen Ira Basen is an executive producer of network programming at CBC Radio One in Toronto and is currently writing a book about public relations "spin doctors". The CBC Radio programs Ira has put his personal spin on include The Inside Track, This Morning and Workology.
      David Weale David Weale leads a dual life. He's a Prince Edward Island storyteller and author living in Charlottetown who has written six books. He's also a professor of Canadian and Prince Edward Island history at the University of Prince Edward Island.
