More than 240 delegates descended on Montreal on Nov. 16 and 17 for the CAJ's annual National Writers' Symposium. The weekend started with a bang with keynote speaker Robert Fisk, Middle East correspondent for London's The Independent.
    Robert Fisk
Fisk gave a compelling, frank 90-minute talk about the importance of context, balance and language in such a volatile climate and received a warm standing ovation.
The rest of the weekend was packed with workshops by tried and true CAJ speakers, such as John Sawatsky, James B. Stewart and Julian Sher, and newcomers such as People magazine's New York bureau chief Maria Eftimiades and her deputy bureau chief Liz McNeil and Rene Balcer, executive producer with Law & Order: Criminal Intent.
