Working and student journalists are invited to apply for this opportunity to acquaint themselves with the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China. Fellowships in separate professional [855 kB PDF] and student [885 kB PDF] categories will be awarded to provide for return airfare between Canada and Hong Kong and hotel accommodation (only) for a period of up to five days. Participants may extend this period at their own expense. Funding for the project will come from the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office of the SAR Government. Neither the SAR Government nor the Canadian Association of Journalists will have any editorial influence or control over of rights to the work of the participants in the fellowship The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Canada will be available to assist in arranging for the fellowship winners to visit various points of interest and meet with people of diverse views and cultural backgrounds such as: Canadian businesspeople, politicians, corporate CEO's and senior government officials. Application procedureYou are required to be a current member of the Canadian Association of Journalists. A membership can be purchased at the same time as the application is made. Each submission must include a resume, a written proposal laying out what is to be achieved, and a written statement of support, including a letter of intent from the editor/producer of mainstream media outlets to publish/broadcast at least three Hong Kong stories within six months upon completion of the trip in the respective mainstream newspaper, magazine or electronic media. There is no application form that needs to be completed as part of the submission. Student journalists must publish or broadcast three stories either in a local media outlet or in their university/school media. The proposal can concentrate on any area of life in Hong Kong, including but not limited to: business, trade, politics, infrastructure development, hi-tech, tourism, housing, education, culture, environment, etc. Send applications to: Applications must be postmarked no later than September 15, 2008.
